Fitting a standard bed headboard with wooden legs
Most headboards come with the main headboard panel, two legs (depending on width) and two screws per leg. The legs are attached with one screw and folded in to allow for easer transit and smaller box packing.
When opened, the headboard legs will fold down and the second leg fixing screw can be inserted (supplied) to both legs
Preparing the divan base is a straight forward enough if you already have had a headboard fitted and are replacing it with a new one the holes will be already visible and the bed headboard fixing screws that came with the bed inserted.
If its a new bed then it will more than likely have some small stickers over the holes for the bed headboard screws (large plastic capped screws about 2 ½ inches 6.5cm long). Pierce through the sticker to find the hole into which the bed headboard screw attaches. It is easer to use a pointed implement. Be carful not to damage the material round the screw hole too much.
Screw the bed headboard screws into the holes in the divan base end where you have just pieced, making sure not to snag the material.
On some makes of bed divans, there are two holes per headboard leg per side and for 6ft as many as 4 lines of two holes making 8 in total. This is due to the weight of the long 6ft wooden headboards.
Now you are ready to fit your new headboard to your bed. Slide the headboard legs onto the screws that are in the divan base, for heavy wooden headboards it is easier to have two people at this stage.
Once you have the headboard legs slid onto the bed headboard screws, you can nip the screws so that the headboard stays in position and does not drop.
With the mattress on the bed, adjust the headboard to be just on the top edge of the mattress. Stand at the end of the bed and check that it is level. Adjust accordingly, and then fully tighten the bed headboard screws.
