Rustic Pine Beds Completed The Look

What is it that makes people who own a perfectly fine, bog-standard house, decide that they want to mix it up, throw all their existing furniture into the dustbin and start all over again? I can't answer that question, but I can tell you that if it weren't for this sort of do-over madness, I'd be pretty much out of a job.

I'll give you an example. A young couple in Southend-on-Sea rings me up to ask if I'd be interested in taking on an interesting project. Well, that's a bit far from my normal stomping grounds, but they're willing to pay for travel time and mileage, so it was worth getting out of Bed for. An hour and 60 kilometers later and I was walking the Southend pier, breathing in the fresh sea air and trying to get a feel for the town. It's attractive, in a seaside resort sort of way, but a lot of the original architecture appears to have been bulldozed to make room for government offices. Plenty of touristy shops, especially around the pier and the flower Beds were well kept.

A few minutes away, I found my clients' home, a lovely house that still retained most of its Victorian charm. Mr. Jones (let's call him that to protect the innocent) let me in and announced that he and his wife were going for an American frontier look inside and wanted to start with authentic Bunk Beds in the guest room. I couldn't have been more gob smacked if they'd said they wanted to rip off the siding and spandrels and replace them with whole timbers. Turns out that I had that thought a bit too soon -I was off to the iron mongers later in the week in search of handmade nails after they asked about having the living room gutted and made to look like the interior of an 1800s vintage log cabin.

You'd think I might have run screaming, but I love a challenge and this was a big one. In the end, they were happy with the results, particularly that guest Bed room. I bought antiqued pine Bunk Beds at Bedroom World that fit in perfectly and I even found matching queen-sized headboards and footboards so I could carry that rustic pine look through the other Beds as well.

I don't know if Mr. and Mrs. Jones dress up as cowboys these days -some things I'd rather not know- but now they've certainly got the house for it.
